Since the break-up of the former Yugoslavia and it's associated
conflict, Croatia has rapidly recovered and moved towards
what is now, some 12 years later, a stable, focused and progressive
state. It's cultural past reaches back over a thousand years
and these roots are inspiring a renewed energy in the open
and democratic environment now present.
Croatia's rapid development is everywhere in evidence, from
the huge investment in roads (especially motorways) and infrastructure,
to a dizzying number of new companies setting up in an environment
focused on EU membership. It should also be noted that in
general the younger generations not only speak English, but
are pleased to do so.
Crucially, official candidate status for entry into the European
Union has been given to Croatia by the European Commission
paving the way for an anticipated full membership in two or
three years time.
Geographically similar to Greece, but culturally and socially
more akin to Italy and the rest of Europe, Croatia offers
an open and energetic society; a great choice for the shrewd
investor looking to see real returns on investment and/or
a fantastic holiday getaway.
Lying opposite Italy on the Adriatic sea, Croatia is a sailors
paradise, with 1100 or so islands dotted along the entire
coast. This means gentle seas, and makes sailing and boating
within reach of all. Hiking routes along the mountainous coastline
and inland forests ensure an exciting variety of leisure pursuits,
while superb Mediterranean food and year-round cafe culture
make for relaxation and quality of life.
